Benoy Thanjan is the Founder and CEO of Reneu Energy, a solar development and consulting firm focused on helping commercial and industrial clients, real estate owners, and energy users navigate distributed energy deployment, project finance, and execution. He has over 19 years of experience in the renewable energy industry and has supported the development of more than 150 MWs of solar projects across the United States.
Benoy has extensive experience across project origination, development, and financial structuring, including site evaluation, permitting, financing, equipment sourcing, and negotiating long-term energy and environmental commodity off-take agreements. He has led projects from early-stage development through Notice to Proceed to Commercial Operation Date, managing due diligence, interconnection, and capital structuring. His experience across all sides of transactions enables him to provide a unique perspective on how to finance and scale solar and storage projects in today’s evolving market.
Before starting Reneu Energy, Benoy worked at Tesla in the Project Finance Group, where he helped structure and financial model tax equity funds and supported pricing for commercial and industrial behind-the-meter solar projects. In addition, he worked as an Environmental Commodities trader, helping originate transactions and develop monetization and hedging strategies as the company expanded into East Coast markets.
Benoy aldo held roles across development, finance, and advisory. He was a Vice President at Vanguard Energy Partners, where he focused on project finance solutions for commercial-scale solar. He also worked at Ridgewood Renewable Power, a private equity fund, where he evaluated investments and supported portfolio strategy and asset sales. Earlier in his career, he was in the Energy Structured Finance practice at Deloitte.
In addition to his work at Reneu Energy, Benoy is the host of the Solar Maverick Podcast, where he interviews leading executives, investors, and innovators shaping the future of energy. His work focuses on the intersection of solar, energy storage, and finance, with a particular emphasis on scaling behind-the-meter solutions for commercial and industrial customers and digital infrastructure.
Benoy holds an MBA in Finance from Rutgers University and a BS in Finance and Economics from the Stern School of Business at New York University.
